As I recently bought a new windows 11 laptop in 2025, I did the first thing I have done for the past two decades every time I grab a new laptop - download and install Battlefield 1942. I came to a huge disappointment when I had gameplay issues because half of my weapons no longer had crosshairs. In addition, graphical issues made it impossible to change settings because of missing items, or even my scoreboard was not loading correctly. I deemed it unplayable with no crosshairs so I finally came across the fix I will share with you below.
EASY INSTALL: You can download a "Windows 11" Version of Battlefield 1942 which already has the needed files under a "Windows 11 fix" folder. If your copy of BF1942 does not have the folder already, you need to download them separately. If you download the version with a "Windows 11 fix" folder, you can skip to Step four below (the files are located inside the Windows 11 fix folder).
The first step to getting back in the game, and having multiplayer fun is downloading! This can be done by clicking here (our download section).
Step two is to install the game as normal.
Step three is to download dgVoodoo2, which can also be downloaded here (again our download section).
Step four is to copy these files (or extract to):
DDraw.dll
D3Dlmm.dll
D3D8.dll
D3D9.dll
Step five is to paste (or extract to) those files into the Battlefield 1942 directory. example: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 1942
Step six is to test the game. It should work normally now.
Note: You only need to do this fix if you are having issues such as missing crosshairs, or other graphical issues that are not showing properly. At least this is my experience with it.
